Final Evaluation about Elizabethan project

First year as a student at Solent University study a Make-up and Hair Design, first our project was very interesting and developing, we reached to Elizabeth I era 1553-1603. The pale complexion and frizzy hair was a sign of wealth and nobility. Very interesting and instructive era for me especially about a hair. I learnt a lot of new techniques, how to easy shape and get huge volume and lovely texture of hair. However very instructive era of The England History.
For my Final Design I chose a contemporary portrait from commercial ad O2 by Beyonce. Working in pairs my final design was made it by girl, which I didn’t connect with. When we get to a practise she even didn’t made a look like Beyonce hair, which I was very disappointed, of course she tried her best, but a lack of her little practise on me. My final design had a beautiful texture of hair and beautiful look like a Queen Elizabeth I. When I was working with my partner sometimes a feel like I was working with machine- even we couldn’t speak with each other, she pulled my hair and burn me sometimes.
Back to Aine’s final design she chose beautiful contemporary portrait from Chanel catwalk. Lovely texture and beautiful shape, I only practise twice because she was absent. My partner had a very long hair, which I struggled with shape, to achieved very huge volume I forgot to tease them well, after looked flat, also no equal divided. Well, I really enjoyed playing with her long her and shape them for her final design look.
Elizabethan era was very developing and touching, I really like the project for this semester, especially when we had chance watch a Film “The Golden Age” I main role played by Cate Blanchet.

Final Evaluatian about Technical file

During a first semester in our course we had 11 weeks of hard and intensive work, learning techniques and a basic principles working and styling on hair , especially from period of Queen Elizabeth I 1533-1603. In the first week, Lottie made introduction to health and safety and basic principles at work as a stylist and also proper washing hair.First week was very relaxing for all of us do get know each other more better. In the second week we started to practise on our model Katie, basic plaits like French and normal braid, fish tail braid as well make a bun without using a do nut bun, of course before that Lottie show us and explain  how to do it.Week after we learn how to crimped and curly a hair, using a rat's application technique to get huge volume a nice texture of hair. We had been practising for few weeks before we started working in pairs. From that beginning definitely was a less fun, working with very long hair I struggled to shape and took a lot of time to crimped and curler them. Working with partner we had been practising contemporary design look from Elizabethan era. Every week we had to write and took a pictures of what we had done in studio, making a technical folder, which we can use it in the next 2 years or longer, to reminder ourself some technique as well our progress. Lottie as a excellent teacher, very well explained and helped us when we struggled.I really had a pleasure participating in these classes, had a positively influence on me . I never before had dealing with hair so I think this classes was very successful and developing into good way.

Final Look as a designer- time assessment- peer exchange

Commercial Ad O2 by Beyonce influences on my final designer look. I chose because of hair personality and such amazing look as a Queen

I brought some notes step by step for my hair stylist to easy do it

That Aine's work

Well, to be a honest with you, my design look doesn't look the same like on the pictures. She forgot shape on the one side, she did crimp very well to achieved a such big volume of the hair. The most difficult was padding for her, but definitely she did better then my make-up design. She wasn't actually very nerves, because she practise before. But this is only 70% of my final look.

Step by step for final design

My final hair design  for time- Assessment it is Commercial Ad O2 by Beyonce

Step by step for my Hair stylist Aine O'Grady
  • In the middle of hair make a french or normal plait
  • Leave some strands of the both side for make them curler
  • rest of the hair crimp
  • with or without using a pad, roll the up and pin it onto the plait

  • Leave edges of hair outside to make them curler later

  • using a curler wand curl the edges of hair and pin it
  • remember shape  on the one side like a picture shows
  • make curler a strands on the both sides
  • when you finished put onto a hair feathers

I think that was very easy for Aine to make this look.

Time assessment in role as hairstylist

One of the most stressful day, time-assessment final day arrived, my model and hair designer Aine O'Grady. Unfortunately Aine forgot bring to the studio any notes about her design and I had do it without any little help. I crimped hair before time-assessment to had enough time shape and left with non brushed, on the face applied skin base, blush and lipstick to achieved Elizabethan look.

Aine's final designer hair model

Aine's crimped hair and make-up before time-assessment

Products which I used :

  • Denman brush
  • hair spray
  • tail comb brush
  • pins
  • pad
  • band
  • crimper
My final look as hair stylist

From the beginning wasn't very easy to shape anything because of Aine's very long hair. To achieved enormous frizzy hair I crimped before and really good brushed.I divided for 3 section and started from the bottom of head , using a band a made a small pony tail and tucked them underneath and pined, I used a hair spray to keep them together. Definitely I didn't divide them  onto equal section, what you can see on the pictures, that part wasn't so much difficult but very tricky, using a tail comb brush a made look very clean. One side is a little bit unsymmetrical. I used a pad to shape top of the head, looking in the mirror I tried to get symmetrical shape. Edges just rolled them up and pined, using a hair spray a finished look.

Practising at Home

Today I just have a fancy to create something on a Katie model head. First half of the head crimped, started from then bottom of head, from both sides in then middle I took one strand of each side, quiet thick and I did a normal plait, hair of the top I left straight. Hair on the bottom I shaped using a pad, from strands I pined them above the padding, top I rolled up and pined to the middle, edges of the hair just curled and pined. I used some feathers do gave a look Elizabethan style.

My work

Final Design chosen

Fr
From among hair design I chose 3 the most incredible for me. First one is a Commercial Ad O2 by Beyonce form 2013. The VCCP- created campaign stars Beyonce and the crew from her tour in an opulent setting reminiscent of Marie Antoinette holding court in 18th Century France, but with a modern twist, incorporating high hemlines and DJ decks. Wow how amazingly she looks, very frizzy hair, shaped in Queen style, I think her looks reflects Beyonce's character and personality, she very glamour and popular pop artist, this look suitable her.

My second hair design look how very simple and modern twist created by Barbara Wuillot. Two very strong textures from the sources but in different sizes turn up the heat and fashion factors for this long and extravagant hairstyle. She created wonderful tension and contrast with the body of hair crimped, fairy wing fine ripples and several long strands in front that where ironed  to a larger patterns of waves before they were slung around the head in the loose seemingly random fashion. The pattern also influences a shine and the way that a lights is reflected which adds another layer of texture to this highly exciting example of hauteur couture.

And my third Contemporary hair design by an Elizabethan influence, such simple crimped hair , shaped and padding from top of the hair , I can compare to a new modern Mohawk style.
